It’s been a busy summer!  Hard to believe in a few weeks, we’ll be celebrating Labor Day! Between work and vacation and trying to launch {Twelve}12, I have gotten behind on the blog again.  By the way, we are still looking for Class of 2012 Spokesmodels.  If you or someone you know is a Gwinnett County or Walton County High School Senior, they are eligible.  For more details, click here.

Getting back to blog catch up!

Let’s get to know Chelsie:

What did you enjoy most about your senior year?

“My senior year I enjoyed being more independent and being looked up to by many as the new group going off into the world.”

What are you looking forward to most now that you have graduated?

“Now that I have graduated, I look forward to being on my own and experiencing things that you can only enjoy while your young.”

What are you going to study at college?

“I plan to study pharmacy, or veterinarian medicine.”

I found this so touching…

Chelsie recently had a brother pass away and got a tattoo in his memory.

Ahhh…shoes!  Being a little obsessed with shoes myself, I always tell everyone to wear their favorite shoes!  I love these cute little wedges Chelsie wore.  They are very nautical – so fun!

I have been hinting around to changes lately.  After photographing families, weddings, children, events…I finally have decided what suits me and my photography style best.  I will now be specializing in High School Senior Portraits.  Now, this isn’t the plain old cap and gown or that drape we had to wear back when I was in school.  Not at all!  :)  My style has always been taking a fabulous fashionable person and find a dirty, not so pretty location and let them pose as if they are in a fashion magazine.  I’m inspired by fashion and editorial style shoots where smiles aren’t always necessary.   What I have learned in the past few years is that my style and what I love to photograph is exactly what High School Seniors want to have in photographs of themselves.

The first most obvious change is the Portfolio page of my website.  I have removed the Children, Family, and Boudoir sections.   I always hear that you should show the work that you want to attract and for me, that is Seniors and Individuals & Couples interested in Fashion & Editorial inspired photo shoots.   The second most obvious change is the addition of the High School Senior gallery to the Portfolio page.  From time to time, you may still see a few family sessions appear on the blog, because I do have lots of friends with children.   I just won’t be focusing on these types of sessions anymore or targeting them as part of my business.

I have also named the High School Senior Portrait side of my business {Twelve}12 and created some new logos to match.  I just wanted a bit of a separation from Tricia Toker Photography.

twelve full color 750 Changes for Tricia Toker Photography and Introducing {Twelve}12

twelve 12 color 500 Changes for Tricia Toker Photography and Introducing {Twelve}12

That’s the big news for now!  Soon I will be announcing the details of the Class of 2012 Spokesmodel program, where Gwinnett County High School Seniors will help promote {Twelve}12 and receive free photo sessions and/or products in return!

This year has been different for me than last year as far as my photography is concerned.

Last year was about starting the business and taking pictures of anything and everything. Now, it is more about finding myself as a photographer and deciding what really excites me and what direction to take my business.  Along with that, I decided I needed to meet other photographers in my area.

While my friends like that I started my business, none of them care about an aperture or shutter speed and I don’t blame them for that at all.   I do want to get out there though and find some new friends that share in my passion for photography.  Earlier this year,  I started looking for local photography groups.  I found a few really cool ones that meet regularly and attended my first one last month.   Aside from meeting a bunch of really cool and talented people, I got to shoot in a fabulous studio, Photoplex Studios in Alpharetta.  Now, I can’t take credit for the awesome lighting setup (thanks to Trent, Evan, and the rest of the team) or the posing.  The models rocked it big time!  I did come away with some new friends and some awesome shots.   Aimee, Claudia, Kayla – hope to see you at the next one!

You knew this day would come…the day I bought another pair of Iron Fist Shoes.  :)

Let’s be honest, as long as they keep making them, I will probably keep buying them.  In fact, I do have a birthday coming up…honey, you listening?!?  :)

In case you’re counting, this makes #6!  Seriously, I did believe that I was done until Iron Fist releases the next collection….but I came across an older pair, one that isn’t in stock anymore and I HAD TO HAVE THEM!

The Nightmare of You Platforms are inspired by the Nightmare on Elm Street movies.  I grew up watching these movies.  The original and the third were my favorites.  I went to see the remake last year AND I was Miss Freddy Krueger for Halloween, so to say these shoes called my name is an understatement!  :)

Helloooo!!!

Sorry, I have taken so long to blog again…and no, I haven’t been off buying more shoes!! Well…maybe just one more pair of Iron Fist Shoes made it into my closet, but that’s a story for another blog post.  :)

Last month started my busy, busy time for sessions.  You’ll remember the Cunningham family from previous posts.  This time though, I got to photograph the extended family as well. While the day was mostly about little Mia, it’s easy to see where she gets her posing skills from with all the beautiful smiles in this family.  :)

This is the third time that I have photographed little Mia in a year.  Each time, I would say she has gotten more and more comfortable with me and the camera.  Let  me tell you though, this time, Mia busted out some moves like she has been watching America’s Next Top Model!

I couldn’t resist…I bought 3 more pairs of Iron Fist shoes!  When I bought the first two pairs, I liked several but wasn’t sure how I would feel about them until they arrived and I could try them on.  Well, as you know I love the first two pairs, so I went back for some of the others that caught my eye.  This time I went for some of the crazier ones.  What do you think??  I think I’m good for now…well, at least until the Summer collection comes out!

I know I mentioned that I would catch up on blogging, but first I need to share how I spent this past Sunday with the Cofer Family.  Christy and I have been talking for a couple of months and I was so excited to finally meet her.  I met the family early in the morning in Downtown Winder.  I was very happy to see all the cool old buildings in this town!  I just love little towns with so much character.  I will definitely have to go back.

Christy and her beautiful family were up for anything I asked and were so great about going to a variety of locations in a short amount of time.

Little Brady was such a ham.  He totally loved posing for the camera.  He didn’t need a reason, but it certainly didn’t hurt when I brought out a bag of foam toys.

My favorite spot of the day was behind the buildings near an alley.  My mother actually found it and I am so glad she did!

Christy did mention that she wanted to try to get a few pics of her and her husband Jimmy.  Luckily, since my mother was with me, she kept the boys occupied while I got a few of them alone.  This one is my favorite!

Thanks to the Cofer family for hanging out with me and making my job so easy and thanks to my mother for tagging along and helping out!  :)

I am so far behind in my blog posts and I promise to catch up soon, but first I have to share a new personal obsession – Iron Fist shoes!

Last week, I was reading one of the many blogs I follow – Rock n Roll Bride.  She was sharing a discount code for Iron Fist shoes and showed which shoes she had purchased.  I saw these shoes and thought, “oh my goodness, I have to have those!”  She isn’t from the United States, so figured no chance, but as luck would have it, Iron Fist is in Los Angeles and sell online and in stores all around the country too!  I spent forever on the website checking out all the shoes.  Some of the shoes are over the top, but for some reason, I think they are sooo fun!  I got the Lacey Days Platforms and Sugar Witch!  I love, love, love them!  I wore the Sugar Witch ones to work yesterday and got sooo many compliments.  I was surprised because while I may think they are cute, I know not everyone will.  I may have to buy more soon, just because I think they are so fun and they are the perfect mix of funky and girly!  What do you think?!?  :)

As you already know, there have been lots of changes this year…new website, logo, blog.  Along with those changes, I had to make new business cards and decided to update my packaging.   I can’t show you the complete packaging yet until I put it all together to mail out.  That will happen though in the next few days.  Since some of you have been asking for pictures of these new items, I’ll give you a little preview in the meantime.

I really love the new business cards.  I designed and purchased these through Moo.com.  The reason I chose Moo.com is because you can upload your own pictures and have many different images on your cards instead of being restricted to one single style or type of card.   I have 25 different images on my cards, but you can see a few below.  I also purchased new cd mailers and some really cute packing tape.  I didn’t want some boring run of the mill packing tape, so I searched for some decorative tape.  I had no idea the varieties out there to choose from…so many decisions, but I went with Tapeswell.com.  Love, love, love all their cute styles!  Lastly, I ordered some thank you cards and a stamp, both with the new logo.  I really wanted the new packaging to reflect my style: fun, funky with a little bit of edge but some softness too.  :)

Let me know what you think so far, but definitely check back with me later when I put all the pieces together!!

I was so happy when Cher decided to meet me out on a Sunday afternoon and was open to all my locations, ideas and mostly didn’t even care if she got dirty.  I, however, am not as partial to dust and dirt, but Cher didn’t care a bit when we trekked, in complete darkness, across the soggy ground.  Did I mention she did this in a short black dress and black heels, while helping me carry all my stuff?!?  :)

Cher took some amazing pictures.  I wish I could show you all of them, but then this post would be ridiculously long and I would like for you to come back again!  :)   I was so excited about the different locations.  The broken barricade, I passed one morning on the way to work and thought, “oh my goodness, I have to find someone to photograph there!”  Lucky for me, Cher didn’t care where I took her.  Thanks for putting up with all my crazy ideas Cher – hope you enjoy the pictures!  :)

If any of you out there have any suggestions of other cool locations, please send me an email.  I am always looking for random locations, but I don’t really get to drive around exploring a lot.  I would love to see what is out there that I could incorporate into a fun photo shoot!

enough of that…I’ll stop talking already and show you the pictures!

I’m soooo happy to announce that the new website and blog are finally here!   It was a lot of late nights and a lot of work, but I can’t wait for everyone to see it.   If you are looking for any of the old blog entries, no need to go back to the old blog.  You can find everything here!  Please take some time to look around the site and let me know what you think!

I’ll be posting more later.  I have some exciting photo shoots coming up later this month, plus I need to finish editing the shoot from Sunday.  If you missed the sneak peek on Facebook – it’s right here!  Super excited to show off more from this one!

Check out the size of the image!  That’s one of the main reasons I wanted a new blog.   Now I can actually show you images as they should be seen and not small like my old blog.   All posts moving forward will have large images like the one below.

So that’s it for now – that’s the big announcement!  I hope you all like the new home for Tricia Toker Photography and I think the website address should be a lot easier to remember now.  :)

It was such a busy Valentine’s Day this year.  I had been fighting a cold earlier in the week and couldn’t work ahead this year.  Sunday morning, I got up super early and got to work.  I had a card to make, bags, brownies, stickers and not a lot of time to accomplish it all.  I was able to get almost all of it done…the homemade brownies had to be sacrificed though.  That was definitely a bummer considering I made super cute bags that said “Homemade Chocolate Brownies.”  Oh well…they were homemade by someone…just not me!  :)
If you would like some Valentine inspiration….the brownie bag and fruit stickers are courtesy of Twig & Thistle.   The card is actually an idea for coffee cup wrappers that I found on eatdrinkchic.com.  There are sooo many fabulous ideas out there if you just look around a bit.

If you know me already, you know I love dogs and of course, photography!  When I first heard of Doggies on the Catwalk,  I thought, “how fun would that be to photograph!”   I saw contact information at the bottom of the announcement and thought, what the heck, I will just ask if I can go and photograph it. I never thought I would actually hear back.  It was right around the holidays, so when I didn’t hear back for a couple of days, I wasn’t surprised.  About 3 days later, I got the invite that I could go and I was beyond excited!

Honestly, even if I had never heard back I still would have bought a ticket because I was so in love with the idea already.   I waited patiently for about 3 weeks until the event and then – SNOW and ICE happened and it happened in a big way.   I was really worried about how I would get down to Atlanta when I hadn’t left my house in days and it was looking like the weather wouldn’t be much better by showtime.  Then word came the day before that the event would be postponed until the following Friday – THANK GOODNESS!!!  Now, I could go with absolutely no worries!  Well, except for the usual nerves, but that’s to be expected.  :)

Hi everyone and Happy 2011!
I hope the new year is treating you all very well so far!

I just wanted to share some exciting news….I will be launching a new website soon!
Along with the new website, I will have new branding too.  Super excited!
I have a lot of work ahead of me to get the site up in the next few months, but I can’t wait to share it with everyone.

I updated pricing for the new year, so be sure to check out the 2011 pricing section.
Also, if you have used my services before, be sure to ask me about the new Rewards Program when you book your upcoming session or event.   This is a program that I added this year for repeat customers.

This year, I plan to be asking for some volunteers.  I want to expand my brand and will need some volunteer models for some fun sessions.   This will help me become the fabulous photographer that I aspire to be!   icon smile Tricia Toker Photography 2011 News & Updates
More on this later….

That’s all for now…Toodles!

I had no idea how close to impossible picking only ten would be!
I literally started writing down every favorite and my piece of paper is a mess because I kept writing more and more.   So many things were great about this year and the people that allowed me to photograph their lives and memories.   Picking only ten pictures was incredibly difficult, but I narrowed it down as best as I could.   I ended up with 20 instead of 10.  Honestly, it could have been 50 though.  :)
I have noticed that seldom is my favorite the same as a client favorite.   I’m not sure how or why that is, but we all have very different opinions and I’m learning that more and more as I photograph people.   Why I choose a favorite could be a number of reasons: composition, texture, a certain look caught unexpectedly, or the way I got the shot that I didn’t think that I could.  Mostly, it’s how the picture makes me feel.  What type of emotion it has…whether a person is in the picture or not.  I know that sounds strange but I have to look at a picture and have it wow me.  I hope that in the course of this year, I have wowed you a little bit through my work.  It’s been a wonderful year and I truly thank all of you who have trusted me enough to be part of capturing your memories.

Holiday Sessions 2010

December 23, 2010

I had my busiest month ever in November.  Getting ready for the holidays in general and then add in 4 sessions – it was crazy busy!  It was a good busy though for sure.   I warn you…this is going to be a long blog post, but well worth it in the end.  :)

First up is the Voykin, Sorbet, McNaught Family:

Next is the Rutland Family.   Our session was right after the Voykin/Sorbet/McNaught one and was right before sunset.   We snuck in a few right before the sun went down and everything else was after dark with some candles to help out…actually I think it was 24 candles that Danielle and I lit!  :)

The Crotty Family session was on a perfect day and their backyard was the perfect location.  What I enjoyed best about this was how I was able to find some really cool spots without leaving – right in their backyard!  This is one of my favorite sessions.  I loved the sunlight, the leaves and my favorite part was the cool looking shed!

Thanks to all the families who hired me this year for their holiday sessions and thank you for sharing your Christmas cards with me.  It makes me really proud to see that the photographs that I took of you and your families have been shared with so many.

Happy Holidays to you all!

I have always enjoyed taking pictures as we decorate for the holidays.   I think it’s so important to be able to look back over the years at not only how much you and your family have changed but to document your Christmas traditions.  I also am a fan of photographing your trees and the ornaments.  Each year, we get a new ornament..if not a few.  We have two trees – a traditional one and an animal print/red and gold one.
What are some of your favorite traditions to photograph during the holiday season?
Here are a few of our new ornaments and some older favorites, as well as some favorite decorations:

It’s been a busy, busy time.  November was full of family Holiday sessions, Thanksgiving, decorating for Christmas and lots and lots of editing pictures!  :)  I will post some of the holiday sessions later this month, but first wanted to do a little post about the party and fashion show that I photographed last weekend.
You may remember Angela and Ernest from this summer when they did the super cool session in Chamblee’s Antique District.  Since then Angela has been working to build a consulting and stylist business of her own.   Instead of any plain old holiday party, Angela put on a Fashion Show for her guests.   It was quite a hit!  I am so happy that I was able to capture this day for her and can’t wait to see what she does next!

Well, it’s November now and the year is flying by!  I’m getting ready to start one of my busiest months having a session every weekend!  Everyone wants to get pics done for their Christmas cards.  I only hope the weather cooperates since we don’t have too many weekends to accomplish this!
Before I get too busy, I wanted to share some pics from sessions from the past few months that I haven’t had a chance to blog about yet.

First up, Melissa & Jamin.  I really loved the location – lots of cool architectural elements.  Melissa wanted to specifically do more night shots than day shots, which I have no problem with since I actually prefer those.   I think we got some cool daytime ones though as well.

Next is the Crowder Family.  I have always wanted to do a session at the fair.  I was so excited when they liked the idea too.  Shooting at a fair definitely has it’s challenges with all the different lights and movement.  If you get it right though, you can end up with some beautiful pictures and lots of fun!

Lastly, I photographed my friend Melissa’s daughter’s birthday.  I think I was more excited about this birthday than one of my own!  It’s such a cute idea, that it made me want to be a little girl again.   The party was held at Snip-its.  The party includes all the little girls getting to play dress up, get their hair and make up done and then finally, ending with a walk down the runway.  How fabulous is that??  :)
